The next prime minister will be...

  • According to the Times, some Remainers MP's (Grieve and co) are planning to bring the government down the day after Boris takes over ... if he becomes PM.

It's pointless posting a link because it's behind a paywall, but what good news, eh? Will we really get the opportunity to kick out all those undemocratic MP's? I truly hope so, and I hope Farage has got his candidates ready.

I would've loved to have been one of those candidates, but I'm busy with other things.

I hope Grieve and co get de-selected. What will probably happen is they'll join the Lib Dems.

  • However, what happens to the Tories and Farage's party if Boris or Hunt succeed in Britain leaving the EU without acrimony by end 2019?

The conservatives stay in power and the Brexit Party goes the same way that UKIP did, into dust.

The latest spanner in the works is Labour's Tom Watson maintaining that the Labour Party must position itself as the Remainer Party or the Tories will romp home with a majority if they Leave the EU on an amicable basis. In effect he might be recommending that the Labour Party tries to ruin the Tory's attempt to leave the EU by 2019, thereby bringing forward a General Election where Labour becomes the Remainer Party. A Lab-Lib pact would strengthen their hand. I think Tom Watson is right, that this is his best bet, probably his only bet.

Boris will not make the same mistake as May and call a early GE. Once he's PM next month, it'll stay like that until the next GE in 2022.

I don't think they'll be a lib lab pact then either or sooner. I suspect Momentum will have almost full control of Labour by the next GE and the party will lurch even more to the Left putting off more voters who will either turn to the "Boris Party" or "Chukka's Champs" aka the Lib Dems.

1 Be great if Grieve came to grief

2 So you think Nige accepts that his political future entirely depends on a low probability scenario where (a) Boris or Hunt fail to take us out of the EU, (b) there becomes a near hysterical demand for a General Election that cannot be denied and (c) Nige rides in to rescue the country and reincarnate the remnants of the Tories on the strength of him and his other Nigelites holding a balance of power? And you figure Nige's party will turn to dust if (a) and (b) doesn't open the door to (c)? Your probably right. Yet I still I think there's a risk that even if Boris or Hunt takes us out of the EU we will still have a weak incompetent squabbling government, and that Britain on its own will be in dire need of the pragmatism, commercial trading nous and reforming zeal that Nige's balance of power could inject. After all, this is a 2-act play: Act 1, escape from Stalag EU. Act 2, make it on our own. The Tories have already proven their incompetence in Act 1 and will need new blood (Nige & Co) if Act 2 is to have a happy ending. I reckon in a GE, voters could be persuaded of that view

3 I hope you're right and that Boris's bumbling or bungling or impetuous side doesn't make that mistake. Of course, if there is immediate chaos after leaving and he doesn't appear to be holding a tight rein and too many important decisions are being disintegrated under the so-called democratic will of a squabbling Parliament that lacks a working majority, then his decision to hang on until Spring 2022 won't be his to make. Time for Nige to fly in to the rescue, with constituency campaigning pacts from which to end up as an influential balance-of-power stakeholder in the Tory party.

4 I think you're probably right about Labour and Momentum and a further lurch to the left. All that can save Labour is a palace revolution. I saw Caroline Flint on the Andrew Marr show. If there were more like her - and Jess Phillips - Labour would be an alternative I could live with - maybe even a preferable one

Unless Boris screws up Brexit (which as Boris is totally lazy and incompetent, is entirely possible) then I don't think Farage has a political future, no. He has always been associated with the EU and more recently Brexit and if Brexit happens, then people will move on from him. The only chance for him and its a big risk is if he lurches more to the right and becomes a "legitimate" Tommy Robinson and that might interest a lot of voters.

I don't see Boris forming any kind of alliance with Farage, but if Boris does screw up Brexit, Farage won't need the conservatives, because the Conservative Party will not exist at that point, leading the way for PM Farage.

If Brexit is successful under Boris, then voters won't care how weak his government may become, they'll just be glad that Brexit happened. The details of which will take many years to sort out, anyway, so we'll be talking about Brexit for many years to come yet!

It's my belief we need a PM/political party at least as right wing as Farage. Our politics lacks common sense, and you can't exercise common sense when you have political correctness

The intelligent are being oppressed so the stupid don't get offended

  • Johnson defends Brexit plan and 'row' silence

Boris Johnson has admitted he would need EU co-operation to avoid a hard Irish border or crippling tariffs on trade in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

In an exclusive interview with the BBC, the favourite to be the next PM said: "It's not just up to us."

But he said he did "not believe for a moment" the UK would leave without a deal, although he was willing to do so.

    The full interview is here.

Does anyone think that Boris actually knows what he'll do in regards to Brexit if he gets the top job? He sounds as clueless as ever and is basically just going to repackage May's deal, the same deal that's already been rejected by parliament three times.

I see Boris has pulled out of the tv debate that Sky intended to do today, but he's agreed to one in a few weeks.

  • Hunt has come across as an arrogant so-and-so, like most Remainers. His name calling of Boris as a coward is despicable. He has no real argument if he has to resort to name calling (again this is what Remainers specialise in!). If Hunt thinks it is in the public interest to know the details of the personal relationships of potential PM's, then lets start with Corbyn and his relationship with the woman he made Shadow Home Secretary. Was the appointment on merit (doubtful) or because of familiarity? Does Hunts demand apply only to Brexiters, and no-one else.

Boris has been on TV this morning and said if he is PM we leave on Oct 31st. (My response ... YAY, at last!!!!!!!)

Quote: He told Talk Radio's political editor Ross Kempsell he would "not rest" until the UK had left the EU, insisting Brexit would happen on 31 October "come what may... do or die".

    See the article here:

  • Boris has done a lot of media today and is starting to sound like the old Boris , Nick Ferrari tried to make some point about the latest photo but Boris wouldn't bite , still LBC made this their news headline all day !

The media really seem to have it in for him .

  • But Ferrari isn't a lefty, he's just doing his job which is challenging Boris which is why he asked Boris that if his life is so personal, as Boris has claimed, then why is a picture of him and the g/f plastered all over today's papers which is clearly a plant. Fair point I thought.

  • You don't know the circumstances. I once threw a coffee table (a very small one) through a glass door. My hubbie wound me up to such a state, it was that, hit him, or walk out forever! I chose an inanimate object rather than a living being, although I didn't realise it would actually go through the door. It was sheer frustration.

I'll remind myself to be always nice to you, I bruise easily.^^8o

He's saying lots of things to lots of people. Well, the end of October isn't late long to wait after three years, so we'll see if he delivers Brexit or not.

  • Here is Boris's view on Brexit:

    Letter from Boris to Hunt

    Boris is playing politics here...

But as he said if the next PM doesn't deliver Brexit then the Conservative Party is creamed, but how does his comments in this letter square up with his comments on the BBC debate when he said Brexit on 31st Oct was " feasible." That is not a cast iron guarantee, so which is it Boris, feasible or Absolutely certain??

There was no need to ask multiple times about a photo , how petty and trivial are the over important media going to get ?

Ask about things that actually matter to the electorate , plenty of topics to choose , defence , schools , industry , education and of course Brexit!
