BORIS JOHNSON has drafted in a crack team to draw up a new Withdrawal Agreement, consisting of two senior Brexiteers and vocal Tory backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Mr Johnson and Tory leadership rival Jeremy Hunt are both to bring in new negotiating teams to develop a new Brexit blueprint. Cheers erupted at the leadership hustings in Manchester last night after it was revealed that Olly Robbins had left his post as Brexit negotiator. Jeremy Hunt has acquired the talents of senior Canadian politicians, while Boris Johnson enlisted hardline British Brexiteers.
Mr Johnson’s three-man team consists of European Research Group chair Jacob Rees-Mogg, Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay, and Attorney General Geoffrey Cox.
They began work on a new deal last week and will create proposals to leave the EU with or without a deal come the October 31 exit date.
Lots of Brexit related news over the last few days, but if anyone was wondering and doubting whether Boris was going to be serious or not about Brexit (like me), I think this news should alleviate the fears.
Boris is putting his team together which may also include Steve Baker who is the most hardline Brexiteer out of all the Conservative MPs and very knowledgeable on all things Europe. With Rees-Mogg on his team, I think we can be pretty confident Brexit will happen under Boris and Rees-Mogg and almost guaranteed if Baker joins the team too.
But the best news of the last 24 hours or so is about the man most responsible for trying to keep us in the EU, May's right hand man on all things Brexit, Olly Robbins.
After hearing Boris speak at one of the hustings about "clearing away the decks," Robbins decided quite rightly that if he doesn't jump now, he'll be pushed. Beyond May herself, this is the person most responsible for screwing up Brexit so far. Good riddance.
