Dominic Cummings: A revolution coming to Whitehall?

  • This was the big news of the day, until a minute ago:

One of Boris Johnson's closest aides, director of communications Lee Cain, has resigned amid reports of internal tensions in Downing Street.

He will leave next month, despite being offered a promotion to chief of staff.

His departure prompted speculation about the future of the PM's chief adviser Dominic Cummings, but the BBC was told he would stay for now.

Now this has just happened and some might say it should've happened six months ago:

Dominic Cummings to leave Downing Street by Christmas

Boris Johnson's senior adviser Dominic Cummings is expected to leave his position by the end of the year.

Mr Cummings told the BBC "rumours of me threatening to resign are invented", after speculation this week.

But he added that his "position hasn't changed since my January blog" when he said that he wanted to make himself "largely redundant" by the end of 2020.

So the revelation lasted long, didn't it...?

However, Cummings still made major changes at the heart of Whitehall (something I supported) and still got the scalps of the permanent secretaries of each government department, but with the virus taking up most of the government team's time, I guess he was never able to follow through on many of his planned changes.

Bye Dom, you can go for as many drives to test your eyesight as you like now!^^

Perhaps he won't. He won't, and if he isn't in a high powered government job when it happens, he won't have Boris backing him up if / when he gets caught, the next time.

He might get busted the next time, and if / when he does, at least we'll be spared his excrutiatingly awful, bare faced lying in the Number 10 rose garden on national TV.

There has been a power grab going on in Downing Street for the last week or so and whatever is reported in the press won't be half the real story. Allegiances are clearly shifting in the government and the recent behind-closed-doors meeting between Rishi Sunak and the 1922 Committee might have been less an economic update than a job interview. Speculation, of course, but the Tory Party is ruthless.

This weeks events have had nothing at all to do with governing the country..... of resolving the multiple problems with Brexit, or tackling C-19, which has now claimed in excess of 50'000 lives. It's had everything to do with power though. And it looks like the current in-crowd are losing it.

First Lee Cain loses his job as Communications Boss after being hotly tipped for a promotion he was nowhere anywhere near being the right person for, and now Cummings - it is rumoured - decides to call it a day.

I wonder who might be next........................ Johnson.jpg

  • Supposedly, Michael Gove has been plotting, but Cummings is very much Gove's man, so I doubt he's part of any coup this time around.

By all reports this seems a complete own goal by Boris. He wanted an American style press secretary which is fair enough, but he already had a press/PR person (Cain) but he wasn't someone who Boris could put in front of a camera, so they got Allegra Stratton. Cain felt slighted by her appointment and then the rest is history.

  • Every time I hear his name I think porno. The next big film will be Dominic Cummings and Ben Dover star in Up Minister. :D

I can't see why he wont leave. He's made his money and got what he wanted and enough to retire on. Actually with all that has been going on in government with tax payers money I suspect the whole party have enough money to walk away and retire on. I'm pretty sure all the large hand out's that they have given to their corporate mates during this COVID crisis that some of those expenses will find their back into MP's personal pockets one way or another in the same way Blair set himself up with the oil shares in the middle east before leaving.

There's the money from the nightingale hospitals being setup, there's the first COVID app that conveniently failed, there's the SERCO fiasco and there's probably some other stuff I have missed where they have fed vast amounts of tax payers money out in exuberant deals. It most likely goes something like like 'we will pay you 7000 a day if you put 2000 aside for us in shares or just launder it away in company petty cash so we can pick it up at a later date. Don't worry we can work something out with tax department' or maybe 'you can donate to this charity which I ambassador or this one where my mate is ambassador by name on my behalf so I can launder it there and hide it offshore'.

Becoming a winning party in parliament is like doing a smash and grab and the whole COVID crisis has fallen very nicely into their hands by sheer luck. When they hand out silly amounts of tax payers money in deals there's nobody there to say NO, that's far to much and way above what the average price should be. Pay out loads and skim some off. It's like tax laundering.

  • The houses of parliament needs to be modernised.... Firstly the House of Cronies needs to be scrapped and around 50 new members properly elected to produce a revising chamber.

Then secondly there are a number of out dated conventions and practices in the parliament which desperately need updated to the 21st century.

When this is done, our parliament will then be fit for purpose
