Another rubbish day, overcast, windy and cold.

I was outside this morning and it was overcast, but warm, but now have to be inside and guess what happened a few hours ago? The sun came out. It waited for us to go inside.
-
Last few days it started out clear and then clouded up. Today it's dreary right from the off: Had to put the lights on in the kitchen diner.
-
More of the same all week, it seems. Scotland appears to be getting the better deal this time.
-
More of the same all week
Looking at the pressure charts for the week: Thursday the wind becomes slightly south of east and hopefully some drier air will be imported off the continent and at least in the far South the cloud aught to break up.
-
First day in I don't know how long that there's no cloud. August was just one long gloom. Hopefully September will be better.
-
September is generally the best month of the year in England.
-
Yep! My favourite month.
Been enjoying the nice weather already and out in the garden over the last several days, although it has been mainly work of one kind or another.
August was just one long gloom.
Wasn't it just.
-
Another nice day here but the Met office radar is showing some vicious storms going in to Cornwall and Devon from the channel with plenty of lightning as well. Slow moving cold/occluded front shown on the synoptic charts.
Forecast says they'll be for us tonight.
-
Lovely sunny day here, not a breath of wind, Forecast for thunder storm tomorrow.
-
Well that Indian Summer was short lived. Back to gloom, cold and damp.
-
Started out sunny but now turned gloomy, again!
-
Been OK here today. Cloudy but warm. Suited me as I've been digging up all the potatoes and preparing the Tattie patch for next year.
-
Dull and wet today. We could use the rain and thankfully it didn't come down like it has in London. Satellite pictures show a clearance coming in from the South-West over the channel so looks like the afternoon will pick up.
-
Rather nippy first thing, dare I say Autumnal? Sunny periods at the moment but still chilly.
-
It's a perfect autumn day here - sunny, 20 degrees. Not too hot, not too cold, just as I like it!
-
Today 22nd September is the official start of autumn apparently well meteorologically at least, I don't mind autumn too much as long as its not raining.

The meteorological start of autumn was 1 September. The Met Office prefers to deal in whole months for statistical purposes, apparently.
The astronomical autumn equinox is indeed today (22 September), when the length of day and night are equal all over the planet. Here in the northern hemisphere, the nights become longer than the days, leading to a net loss of heat, which is why it gets colder.
Fortunately, the ocean surrounding us, the Gulf Stream and the prevailing south westerly winds work together to ensure it doesn't get nearly as cold as other countries at the same latitude.

I do remember my mum saying that summer was always regarded as being the months that don't contain a r in their name, I suspect that was based on an old wives tale. 🤔
-
Had lovely hot weather in London over the last few days and today promises the same, but like Heero said, earlier it was very Autumnal in feeling.
