  • Yes, I saw that story about the cat.

I have every sympathy for the man, but someone should've warned the shop. As for ponies, I think that is taking things too far taking them onto a train. If someone needs help, it should ideally be provided by a human being in a shop or train.

  • Screw seeding just make sure you have enough peers and use somewhere where they don't require you to seed to get something in return. Just seed little as you take and be done with it.

    I hate it too.

I use to use newgroups a lot for such things, and no seeding at all, but then the masses became aware of them and that killed it.

  • Got the first two episodes of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" sitting on the media server to watch this evening. About 1hr 40m total. :)

    Have you seen them yet?

Yes, I watched twice to get all the references clear. The young Leia is very feisty. Should get the next one today.

  • Episode 3 to watch this evening. It'll be interesting how the story is developed. So far Obi-Wan's overseeing of Luke has been minimal. He's been mainly looking to keep Leia from harm.

  • That’s extraordinary, Norra. I can’t imagine what trickery was used to achieve that, but it’s clever.

Perhaps some work could now start on how to disperse clouds so we can have some good weather for the remainder of the Jubilee weekend!

  • Very impressive.

He may call it artwork, but if it's so easy to create clouds, there must be some scientific application for this. :/

  • This evenings TV is even more crap than normal with the jubilee nonsense. Back to the media server.

China have been doing it for a while. Creating weather to disperse the smog.

China plans to create artificial rain to combat smog
Cloud seeding is reportedly part of the country's plan to reduce its notorious air pollution, but experts are sceptical that it will work

I’ve tried to switch off from all things Jubilee this weekend. Got invited to a street party and it was a firm no in response!

  • I wonder if the private contractors where hired by the Gov (department of education) and possibly the same MPs that watch porn and think choke holds are normal. :whistling: I would be so angry if I was a parent of one of those kids in one of those schools and would be tempted to exterminate the so called teacher that teachers these things. I would definitely pull my child from the school.

  • Well, I read the article.... Always helpful and it doesn't say that the company was teaching rough sex, just that it is something that can happen. So, context is everything here.

  • I'm currently in the process of changing my email over. It's a long slog...

I've had had the cable company's email service since when it got installed in 1991 and my current ntl email address for about twently years.

As my current VM deal ends later on in the year, I might switch to another company as Openreach is finally installing FTTP in my area, giving me choice of fast providers at last. That would automatically mean I would lose the ntl email address and most ISPs now like BT, don't provide a email service for new customers.

I've gone for a free, encrypted email service called Mailfence based in Belgium which basically has nothing to do with Google, Microsoft etc. Google are getting a lot of flack for essentially handing over customer data they gleam from their email service to third companies and VM offloaded their email service to Google yonks ago, so Google is really my email provider not VM and I'm keen to be rid of it.

I wish there was a simple way to transfer email, but there isn't, so I'm basically going through all the saved passwords that Firefox collects for all my favourite websites and then going to each site in turn, unsuscribing my ntl address and signing up with the mailfence address. That way, I won't lose any newslettters, bank statements, offers and promotions etc.

Someone needs to invent a easier way to do it!

  • I have 2 email addys from the NTL days that are keyed to the VM account and also an @virgin.net addy that is not. Even when the virgin service is suspended when I was late paying that addy kept going. It dates from the old dial up days and is quite handy as it's my real shortform forename . surname and that one is used on most forums etc

Good choice  Another good one is https://posteo.de/en

Not the safest place to keep your passwords as Mozilla have access to these. It's never a good idea to use a browsers (any browser) built in password manager as malicious scripts via websites can possibly gain access to the files which are often stored locally in plain text. Use a third party password manager. I recommend Enpass as your not forced to use their cloud service to share passwords between devices. in fact your don't even have to register with them and can be totally independent with no software links to their site and it still works. You can use a personal cloud (NAS) if you want to share between devices as there are many options including WebDAV, Nextcloud, Folder Sync etc or sync over wifi locally.

  • Thanks Norra.

I'm not worried about the passwords. Most of them are just for other forums or news type sites. What I am worried about is losing email access if and when I ditch VM and I don't want any service connected to Big Tech which harvests all our data.
