  • Trump bashing or not, if Manafort attended Trump Tower with Trump's son and met the Russians to get dirt on Clinton, as alleged, then Trump is finished.

It's clear cut under American law.

Funny legal system then in the USA , a man under threat of prison's word is suddenly gospel and not hearsay , unless he has recorded things of course.

Okay, so now it's either "manipulating" or "involved" or "alleged"

You really can imagine it, can you? That Manafort announces to whoever is listening that "I'm meeting with the Russians to get dirt on Hilary, so that I can involve myself with the Russians, in manipulating the results of the US election, and I am doing all this specifically at the request of Mt Trump, and I have Mt Trumps voice recording and a signed confession that he has asked me to do this".

Which part would you be playing in 12 Angry Men? Lee J Cobb or Jack Warden? I know it wouldn't be Henry Fonda!

  • Paul Manafort: Ex-Trump campaign chief jailed for fraud

US President Donald Trump's ex-campaign manager Paul Manafort has been given a 47-month jail sentence for fraud.

He was convicted last year of hiding millions of dollars of income earned by his political consulting in Ukraine.

The charges stem from an inquiry into alleged Russian election meddling in the 2016 US elections.

None of Manafort's charges relate to collusion with Russia in the election. Mr Trump has always denied the charge, describing the inquiry as a witch hunt.

I've not been able to follow the inquiry into alleged links between Trump and the Russians, but I imagine Trump will be whooping with delight at this news.

Although Manafort was heavily involved with the Ukrainians, no link to Trump was ever proven, as this all happened before Manafort became Trump's adviser. Also, another related story seems to have concluded too:

  • Stormy Daniels: Porn star's Trump hush money case thrown out

A US federal judge has dismissed porn actress Stormy Daniels' lawsuit seeking to annul a hush money agreement she had with President Donald Trump.

The agreement prevented her from discussing an alleged 2006 fling with Mr Trump - but Mr Trump had already agreed not to enforce it.

Mr Trump has denied having an affair with Ms Daniels.

His former lawyer Michael Cohen has said the $130,000 (£100,000) payment was made to help Mr Trump get elected.

Trump is having a very good day.

I think Trump deserves a good day on this issue. Compared with Jack The Zipper (aka John Kennedy) The Donald seems quite saintly.

Obviously the payment to Story Daniels was a blackmail pay-off to avoid ruining his private reputation, therefore prevent voters from being distracted from his presidential promises and therefore help him get elected. One may as well argue that if he broke a leg during his campaign and bought pain killers and surgery to continue getting around during campaigning, that too would be payment to help him get elected.

It's both a relief and a surprise that the American political and legal establishment can be even more stupid, pedantic, partisan and vindictive than our lot in Britain

  • The Kennedys were truly a nasty bunch and no doubt the bodies under the driveways will eventually be recovered. As you say, Trump is a saint compared to them.

  • Trump-Russia inquiry: President 'did not conspire with Russia'

President Trump's campaign did not conspire with Russia during the 2016 election, according to a summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report submitted to Congress on Sunday.

The report summary did not draw a conclusion as to whether Mr Trump illegally obstructed justice - not exonerating the president.

Well, Trump is innocent but what a mess...

Loads of Trump's former advisers have been jailed and this whole episode leaves a very bad smell. The Democrats are still gunning for Trump and the Republicans are luke warm on him too, but are furious with the Democrats over this whole issue, or witch hunt as Trump has called it.

Can American politics recover from this when so much mud has been thrown about?

  • Mueller report: Things we only just learned

The report contains enough potential red flags to spur congressional scrutiny of the president.

  • I see that there was lots of news over the publication over the Mueller report yesterday, but as the above linked article states, Trump was cleared of collusion and there is no smoking gun to convict him of obstruction of justice, even though Trump caused lots of problems.

The Democrats will use the report to go after Trump and bash him with it daily, but I don't see what else they can do to try and get rid of him. Perhaps they should just give up and move on?
