The owner of the Daily Mirror has said it is in talks to buy the owner of the Daily Express and Daily Star.
Trinity Mirror hopes to buy all of the publishing assets of Northern & Shell, which also owns celebrity magazine OK!.
As well as the Mirror titles, Trinity Mirror also publishes the Daily Record, the Sunday People and more than two hundred regional newspapers.
Big media story, this.
The reading of newspapers, at least on paper, has been on the decline for some time, so it's no surprise that consolidation were to happen.
At least one good thing about this deal, is that Richard Desmond won't be involved in UK mainstream media. He can go back to running his porn magazines and leave tv and newspapers alone.
Should we be concerned if all the UK's national and regional newspapers end up being owned by three or four companies, or less, if the competition authorities allow it?
