They might prefer it because it's what they're used to. It always takes time to get used to new technology.
I think i'd get used to it instead of forking out a monthly fee on top of what i'd paid for a Freesat box, but everybody's different and if they're happy enough that's all that matters.
There's lots of complaints about the latest boxes, particularly the software.
Personally I think modern user interface design is poor generally, it's all oversized graphics, reduced features and far too many interactions e.g. continual scrolling. Looking fancy prioritised over everything else. That's why I dislike so many electronics devices and software applications, they're so much worse to use and people seem to fall for it because the glitz looks nice. The old devices are faster, have more features and some though has usually went into how people use them and want them to work.
I eyeroll when I see an animated transition and all it does is slow the device down. And that's the least of many device's/app's problems.
