  • but still manage to put their own views across.

Shouldn't they just be reading the news and not giving us their views anyway, it should just be the news as it happened or happening not someone's opinion of what has happened or is happening, without speculation about what they don't actually know either.

Young boys in the park jumpers for goalpost that's what footballs all about isn't it.

  • Good point, Ron. My brother was a journalist in the old days when journalists had a code and if they didn't follow it they were fired.

He said to me recently that he thinks most of what passes for a journalist or news person today in terms of the major media outlets is of the opinion column variety. Too much personal opinion and not enough professional attention to the news. So I agree with you that a newsreader, and even an interviewer of a certain calibre, should concentrate on certain points by intelligent questioning and not give over to smart-arsed commentary off his or her own bat.

That should be relegated to the opinion-based columnists. In today's media everyone is a self-appointed bigshot and apparently free to rip into whomever they like in an interview. It makes for entertainment, not journalism. And it punts a presiding flavour of the outlet concerned. But it does nothing for information delivered objectively.

  • If he replaced that gobby Aussie, I might give the channel another go, but its burnt too many britches with me.

Given his LGB membership you would think ultra woke Sky News was a good fit for him. Clearly he feels that GB News is turning things around now after a bumpy start and it is starting to find its place in the news world.

I too argue that the news should just be reporting what has been happening today or what significant events are upcoming or the outcome or aftermath of something that they have reported on from the past. The reports should be balanced and devoid of bias or opinion as well. I believe that the BBC charter still states that the organisation has to be balanced in their reporting and when they have been challenged they refute the accusations of bias and claim they are balanced. One look at the Question Time Panels usually dispels that idea though which is packed with leftists and a token right winger brought along like a circus freak show to be the brunt of everyone else usually including the audience. They are so bias it makes you wonder how we ended up with a Tory government??

I think the problem is the journalists themselves who by and large are on the younger side are all products of the same universities and have become simple cookie cutter reporters who all think alike and say the same things, they are interchangeable, they know each other and socialise with each other and pop up on each others programmes, its a little closed shop. They have, as a group, drifted to the left in their thinking and because they have all done it at the same time none of them have noticed but the rest of the world who have not changed in their views particularly have noticed. But instead of correcting their course back to the centre ground they instead accuse people (like us?) of holding "far right" or "extreme" or "dangerous" views. Total nonsense of course which is why the country voted overwhelmingly Conservative despite the terrible Boris Johnson - he will be dealt with I am confident.

So the idea of a gay man (another gay man) joining the alleged "Trumpist" "Populist" "spreader of dangerous mis-information" GB News (as the Mainstream Media call them) doesn't surprise me at all. I quite liked his slightly irreverent and tongue in cheek style when I watch Sky News (but don't anymore). I see GB News going from strength to strength as journalists finally start to awake from their leftist ideology brainwashing.

  • I remember when I watched American films from thirty years ago and sometimes they would feature clips from their news shows where they had presenters chatting and arguing with each other and thinking thank god we don't have that here. Fast forward to today and there's that awful Simon McCoy on GB News this morning arguing with his co presenter and turning the whole thing into a circus.

News should just be news. Not entertainment. No chat. No bias. Just news.

Tell that to the BBC, ITV, Sky News and Channel 4.

Not sure why you single out GB News other than they are populist and support Farage and Trump both of whom I know you despise.

I see GB News as offering an alternative view to the lefty mainstream. They are not perfect but they do offer a point of view not heard anywhere else on the TV in the UK.

  • I think Andrew Neil's problem is that he doesn't like to chat to people. He prefers to dominate, interrogate and humiliate. The other GBNews presenters are much more guest-friendly, but still manage to put their own views across.

Andrew Neil left GB News more than three months ago and is set (apparently) to rejoin the BBC. He says the GB News project of which he was one of the founders was the biggest mistake of his career. As GB News slowly morphs into a UK equivalent of Fox News he probably feels more uncomfortable. As Fox News is the biggest and most successful cable news network in the USA I don't really understand why he should feel that way. The views are mainstream populist view rather than mainstream political views. Hence the uncomfortable topics such as the boat people and vaccine mandates etc that are not touched upon in the mainstream in the same way.

  • For me, GB News appears to be improving. It has some sassy reports that will get me there far more readily than the usual politically correct bombast of the Mainstream. I hope GB grows and thrives. Good luck to it.

  • I agree. GB news is improving as it settles in. They are not frightened to tackle and report on contraversial subjects. Makes a big change from the BBC which is so Woke and Left Wing that real news is not often reported IMHO.

  • All they need to do to persuade many more to tune in is to establish decent news bulletins.
