  • I started seeing Blue Bloods when it was first shown, but haven't seen it in years, so that's another for my list and those other two seem must sees as well.

    Thanks OB. :)

I would expect they would show Halo again on Ch5 at some point in the future, but will want to show off their new streamer in the meantime with all the new stuff.

    Still a bit naughty.

  • Folks, just a reminder OB has updated his tv guide for the week and there are top picks in that. Monday night seems to be particularly strong if you like tv drama.

No top picks this week as being the summer season the TV channels are heavily reliant on films, but there is still some good viewing to be had.

  • Top picks this week include the following dramas.

    The Newsreader

When Helen partners up with a dynamic reporter, she finds her career at last taking off.

    Sunday, BBC2, 9pm

    The Pembrokeshire Murders

Another chance to watch this fascinating true story of the re-investigation into the infamous murders that took place in Pembrokeshire.

    Monday, ITV3, 10pm

    From

A promising new drama for the revamped Syfy channel, now called Sky Sci-Fi. A family find that they cannot escape from the town they have entered, and there are dangers lurking of which they are unaware.

Tuesday, Sky Sci-Fi and Sky Showcase, 9pm

    The Great

I am not sure what to make of this historical drama as it is also a comedy, but it was good enough for a second series to be commissioned. Catherine the Great makes preparations to take the Throne.

    Wednesday, Channel 4, 10pm

    The Long Call

Another opportunity to watch this drama about a puzzling mystery of a murder on a beach.

    Thursday, ITV3, 10pm

  • There are a number of ‘Top Picks’ this week - quite good for summertime - I hope they are all up to standard!

    Try these:

    Surrealestate

This looks interesting enough, but I hope it’s not silly. This is about a real estate team who specialise in selling haunted houses. It’s described as a paranormal drama - nothing about comedy, so I’m recommending it.

    Saturday, Sky Sci-Fi, 9pm

    La Brea

Channel 5 has done it again - future episodes are on the Paramount+ streaming service only, so don’t expect to be able to record the whole series. It’s about a group of people who fall into a massive sinkhole and find themselves in a different world.

    Monday, Channel 5, 10pm

    Manhunt

This is another opportunity to follow the drama of the Levi Bellfield serial murder case. I saw this first time around - well worth a watch.

    Monday, ITV3, 10pm

    Irma Vep

I have flagged this up for you as being potentially good. An actress feels stereotyped by her superhero role and goes to Paris to start over.

    Tuesday, Sky Atlantic, 9pm

    New Amsterdam

The second series begins. I have not seen the first, but the write-ups seemed good.

    Wednesday, Sky Witness, 9pm

    My Life is Murder

Why did a woman shoot someone she didn’t know? An investigator tries to unravel the mystery.

    Wednesday, Alibi, 10pm

Why not check out the full listings at post #2 of this thread? Some good films on there, too, including Public Enemies, The Station Agent, Oslo, A Good Woman is Hard to Find, It Follows and a new version of ‘Father of the Bride’.

Tommy Cooper was brillant. Utterly nuts, but brillant.

I went to a live performance of his, and I really could not stop laughing! He had a real talent for comedy and magic.

  • At least he went doing what he loved.

I went to a live performance of his, and I really could not stop laughing! He had a real talent for comedy and magic.

    Lucky you.

I was probably a bit too young when he was in his hey day.

This is a new series of the revamped, modern version about the Amsterdam detective, who this time is puzzled by a note left at the site of a mutilated body.

    Shetland

This slow-paced drama returns for its final series. The detective investigates the disappearance of a boy living on the island.

    Wednesday, BBC1, 9pm

    Chernobyl

    Monday, Sky Atlantic, 5pm

    The Night Of

    Monday, Sky Atlantic, 6.10pm

Never seen any of them, but I reckon out of that list, Chernobyl will be first the one to see.

  • They are all good, but CHERNOBYL I thought was good, and A Night of was very addictive. We pretty well binged that one!

Never seen any of them, but I reckon out of that list, Chernobyl will be first the one to see.

The first two episodes of Chernobyl are harrowing as the full extent of what has happened unfolds - no spoiler there its pretty obvious that nobody fully appreciated the severity of the situation.

I love the way the acting doesn't try use any fake Russian accents in this drama, the actors use their own accents regardless of the role they are playing so seeing Russian Leaders with Northern English accents is a little amusing until you get passed it.

Overall an excellent series - how historically accurate it is I couldn't say.

Celebrate it, Anticipate it, Yesterday's faded, Nothing can change it, Life's what you make it
