  • Well I know of one young woman who already has a child of secondary school age, and has now got her self pregnant for the purpose of being able to claim extra benefits and not have to look for work, she freely admitted it and has no intention of involving the father of the child that's assuming she actually knows for certain who it is. but of course in some peoples eyes that doesn't actually happen its just tabloid headlines.

  • There seems to be this perception - mostly among people of your political persuasion - that they are just plain bad. Not interested in learning. That they are and always will be useless to society and should therefore be written off as "a bad lot".

I don’t think that’s a fair comment, Jenny. I have heard people from all walks of life make such comments, and I agree with you that they are wrong to make them.

But your answer to her problem would be to tell her that she's not doing enough and heap more study on her..... call her stupid...... shove more homework at her..... tell her she is not achieving...... and if those enlightened measures don't work, eventually, write her off as useless. How does that help anything..? All that would achieve is to destroy what confidence she has and ensure that she grows into a dysfunctional adult.

I didn’t say that at all, actually. I can’t imagine why you thought that this was what I was advocating.

Child poverty in Britain is very, very real. A child can't study well when he's hungry. An undernourished child doesn't concentrate in class. All he knows is that he's constantly hungry. When I read on these pages that people here support cutting school meals and letting children go hungry during holidays, I want to scream. These are CHILDREN for crying out loud. They didn't ask to be born and when I read trite, stooopid comments like "If people can't afford to feed their kids they shouldn't have them". (a comment you yourself have posted more than once) I call it ridiculous beyond contempt. Those children are not responsible or to blame for the situation they are in, and yet you first punish them directly for the environment they are in, and then blame them personally when they don't succeed to your arbitrary standards.

I certainly do agree that people should not have children if they cannot afford to raise them. However, how are the children at fault for their feckless parents? The conclusions you are drawing from my comments are way off beam, I’m afraid.

  • being able to claim extra benefits

I have never understood this. These kids obviously did not do economics at school because what you get on benefits is not going to cover the costs of living and bringing up a child. The only conclusion I can come to is that sadly this is the fast track to getting somewhere to live and they are enticed by the dream of a nice flat or semi detached with garden. They must see it as a lifestyle choice as a stay at home single parent and entrepreneurial lifestyle to make a bit of extra cash on the side to make up for the lack of benefits. Then there are those who are just sexually promiscuous and accidents happen.

Personally If there are no family members willing to step in and help I would take the babies / kids away from them and put them in a foster home and woman will not be prioritised for housing just because they have a child no matter the age of the child. Get in the queue with everyone else.

I know someone that fell pregnant at 16 got a council flat and had great family and friends support around her but still struggled as a single parent. She did eventually get a job as a support teacher and then got a nursery teaching qualifications and this suited because it worked around school times. She had various boyfriends, slept around a bit until eventually she found a good man with a good job and wage packet and he moved in with her and they got married. Later they managed to buy the council flat at a huge discount, modernised it, moved out and rented the flat out at a good rate to support themselves on top of their income. They then sold it when housing prices went up and then bought a nice house outside of London.

  • Personally If there are no family members willing to step in and help I would take the babies / kids away from them and put them in a foster home and woman will not be prioritised for housing just because they have a child no matter the age of the child. Get in the queue with everyone else.

A lot of people do say that, but it’s a knee-jerk reaction. The reality of tearing innocent children away from their parents is not a sight you would wish to witness.

There needs to be a different solution, but I’m not sure what that would be. People should not be rewarded for deliberately living off the State, but then again, the children should not be penalised. How do we square that circle?

  • Yeh I hear what you saying and it's a difficult one. Babies who end up in a foster home to be eventually adopted maybe to parents that for some reason are not able to have children wouldn't know any better. They are brought up with the only parents they know. It's a lot more difficult for older children but they may get given a better lifestyle. A lifestyle they deserve and better education and the rest of it. This then has a knock on effect for future generations. There are many people that can give the child a better life than a single parent living on benefits. We should abolish artificial insemination too to give these babies / children a better chance of being re-homed and not adding to the population numbers.

  • The conclusions you are drawing from my comments are way off beam, I’m afraid.

That's your answer to every point I make that you have no other response for...... claim you are being misunderstood.

I think I understand you very well.

However........ discarding the claims of victimhood (snowflakery...?) let's get back on topic.

  • Somehow over recent years Education of young people has been skewed. Instead of teaching lifeskills subjects such as Mathematics, English Science and Technology, Law and order, Morality and decent behaviour,,,,,, the snowflake woke teaching staff are pumping alternate lifestyles and other stupid ideas into their young minds. There's plenty of time for school leavers to make their own decisions about Sexuality, Deviant behaviour, Religious choices etc when they have left school and have had experience of the real world.

  • On the issue of education, rather than that of viciously ripping families apart in pursuit of extremist doctrines, let's talk about education, shall we...?

Applications for places at UK universities by students from EU countries have dropped by 56% this year. This is due to the British government not including overseas students in the withdrawal deal, thus preventing students from EU countries from obtaining student loans through the UK Student Loans Company.

Overseas students are required to stump up £9000 to cover tuition fees in advance and quite simply, those from Eastern European countries such as Hungary, Poland and Romania are not able to raise the money. The number of successful EU applications fell from 22'430 last year to 9'820 this year, mostly from Germany, France and Benelux countries. That's a big loss of business, not to mention some courses will not be able to start because minimum starting numbers are not achieved. This is causing disruption to those students who had taken places on those courses now having to look elsewhere.

The 56% dip in EU recruitment was revealed in the first statistical release from UCAS, which coincided with the results day of the Joint Council for Qualifications and the start of Clearing on 10 August.

Dr Janet Ilieva, a data specialist and director of UK based research consultancy Education Insight told University World News (text not available online) "The dip in placed students from the EU's 27 is more dramatic than anybody feared".

Applications from India and the Far East have risen but don't cover the shortfall. And there is a sting in the tail here. Trade deals with Far East countries and the sub-continent are likely to include clauses that will enable students who complete a university course in Britain to stay here to work, and even to be given priority consideration on permanent residency on graduation.

This will sit badly for British students. Our graduates will not have reciprocal rights in other countries and of course, no longer have the automatic right to work in the EU either. The cards will be heavily stacked against our graduates being able to compete for careers upon graduation.

They should be teaching them the practical and useful things like how to manage a household budget without having to run up huge debts just to live.

  • Also teaching them that there are more important things than social media and you can actually communicate with people face to face by talking to them and not just by texting, :D

  • Like how to change a light bulb or wire a plug.

Why learn how to fit a plug when all plugs come fitted with the product...? Or is Brexit planning to scrap that too...?

Any individual who changes a plug on any household item automatically not only invalidates the guarantee on the product, but could also be invalidating their home insurance too if, say, a fire burns their house down and the cause of the fire is then traced back to a faulty plug that was tampered with by the householder.

Plugs are pretty reliable things these days. We moved into our first home together in 2005. We've never had to change a plug on any appliance yet. Just saying.

  • We do.

Doesn't show. But most of it is common sense you simply don't spend more than you actually have and prioritise the things you cant live without rather than the things you don't actually need. ;)

Difference is I can also communicate with people face to face and not just online, and to me not being able to connect to the internet while it may slightly hinder me I wouldn't consider it life ending if I couldn't.

I could tell you about a little story where I was asked by some work colleagues a few years back to attend a so-called social event only to find most of them were so engrossed with their mobile phones that it wasn't exactly social so I left early and when I was asked why the next day and explained they just didn't get it. :D

Funny that this should crop up. Only the other day I was looking for a plug to attach to a cable where I had previously cut the plug off to run a cable through a hole drilled out in some woodwork.

Indeed Norra. Practical life training is so important to the developing student. Something forgotten by the Marxist school teachers who try and fill the pupils heads with loony left ideology and over PC rubbish and ignore teaching money management, decency and morality.

Funny you should raise this point but there is an over representation of female teachers within the education sector. The resultant gynocentric bias is bad for boys.

With the majority of teachers being young and female and fresh from uni and teacher training with little to no real world experience and full of left wing ideology, there tends to be an over abundance of authoritarian feminism within schools. Certainly from my experience with my own boys who only recently completed their A Levels, the anti-male bias was extreme and very evident. Especially given the head teacher was a Lesbian who was quite active in the LGB world. When she moved on she was replaced by a man, yay everyone said, but he turned out to be a socialist and I'm still deciding which is worst, feminist or a socialist?

My boys did just fine as it turned out but not without enormous effort on our part wrestling with ridiculous school policy and in the end paying for private tutoring to overcome the poor standards and female bias of the school. I wonder if I can get a tax refund?

I think there is a strong case for bringing back boys schools and therefore girls schools. With the boys being taught exclusively by male teachers and the girls by whoever they like. Boys need discipline and structure and a different teaching style to girls, trying to teach all pupils like they are female doesn't work and is harmful.

Teachers also need to be vetted to ensure reasonable political neutrality which is so obviously not the case at the moment. The Marxists like to get them young so its important to take an interest in who is teaching our kids. I listen to some of these youngsters talk and I shake my head in disbelief at the lefty garbage they spew out with absolute conviction. I wonder who has gotten to these young impressionable and obviously empty heads and then you have to look no further than the schools for the answer.

  • I think this piece by Rod Liddle identifies what is wrong with education and also a 10 point plan on how to fix it:

Pay attention! We need a complete re-education for schools and universities
