Christmas, thank God it's all over

  • Whatever you want to call it, it's still the Winter festival....a time for getting together with family and feasting. People used to travel to Stonehenge and feast on pigs while observing the Solstice. The Christians simply chose it as a convenient time to celebrate the birth of Jesus.(the birth of the sun/son). So just accept it in whatever it suits you.

  • I like Christmas. Unfortunately the Retail sector has commercialised the festival to the extent that the religious aspect has all but disappeared.

That plus the fact that the wokerati don't want to see Christians celebrating, as it might offend those of other religions. That's nonsense of course as they have their own religious festivals. We will take the tree and Christmas decorations down on Wednesday.

  • I agree with you on the commercialisation aspect, but that is not the reason that the Christianity aspect has almost disappeared. That’s simply a reflection of the drift away from religion in the native population of this country.

I agree with that point, and although not religious myself , that's why we will eventually become an Islamic state. Another subject for another day I suppose !

Well I wonder about that, too, but not for that reason. I can’t see former Christians who are no longer religious moving to Islam.

However, I do see Muslims forming a much higher percentage of the population as the years go by, not helped by the uncontrolled immigration of ‘the boat people’. It’s only a matter of time before Muslims become a majority.

  • We enjoyed Christmas and we enjoyed new year too. I see nothing in it to be miserable about. its alright if people dont want to celebrate but its rather sad when they go out of their way to spoil other peoples enjoyment. they think that because they are miserable everybody else has to be too. Back to work on tuesday. Now that is something to be miserable about.

  • Back to work on tuesday. Now that is something to be miserable about.

No it's not. No ned to spoil it for many 1000's of unemployed and make them more miserable. LOL It a very British thing to have a good moan, be miserable and then complain about it. It's as traditional as Christmas itself.

Everyone to their own, but I can't see how they would be ruining your Christmas. I just think it's over commercialized, and it ruins my routine. Worst of all, I hate to see children enjoying themselves

actually it is millions of unemployed. and I am quite aware that many of them would cheerfully take my job if i dont want it. but its a bit rich of people who moan relentlessly about christmas because they are miserable to then pull me up on the bogus pretence of caring about the unemployed when from what I read on here the unemployed are all labelled as workshy scroungers. sorry, thats WOKE workshy scroungers, right?

  • I think its good to celebrate something that is traditional whether you go the whole hog and plaster decorations over every inch of your house or go for the minimalist approach where it more about getting together as families, an like i said its nice to brighten up the rather dull and dark winter days a bit.

I don't observe it as a religious festival more the about the being in contact with family and friends for me.

Young boys in the park jumpers for goalpost that's what footballs all about isn't it.

I spent many years playing the unemployed game and used to know the system very well indeed. Yes I scammed them as much as they scammed me and I don't feel any guilt for that. You do whatever you have to do to survive and you have no choice but to play the system. I know the system better than most on here I suspect. I'm not the likes of someone that claims that the unemployed have loads of kids for benefits and know dam well that financially that does not work out and folk are forced by the system to play the system at their own game. Sadly this does nothing to help the unemployed get back into work so it's a trap. It almost becomes a job in itself. A lifestyle choice some may call it.

The reality is for many people they are better off not claiming benefits and dealing drugs for living instead to try and get back on their feet unless they have only just started out and building up a clientele so need the top up of benefits while they get on their feet, plus it's a good place to find vulnerable clientele. The thing is many get used to the good wage and lifestyle of dealing drugs, some may even be trapped there also when playing with the big boys so then employment by a legit firm no longer appeals and greed takes over as it does for many in legit jobs. We need two things to solve this. A better benefits system that actually pro actively helps people get back into work and better wages from the firms.

As things stand they are making the system so bad, angering and depressing people, causing mental illness and other sicknesses to the point where people either take drugs, commit suicide or they are forced away from claiming benefits to get numbers down and those people then turn to crime instead to be able to survive. They are basically shifting numbers from one government department to others whether that's mental health services, hospitals or the police and prison services.

  • I have never been unemployued and never claimed benefits. Even though i am on a low wage i don't qualify for benefits because i have a military widows pension for which I am grateful, but would rather have not had to have for obvious reasons. And dont anybody mention tony blair getting his knighthood. I would wrap his garter round his neck and pull it tight. I am impressed at your knowledge of how things work in the system though. I have seen people at first hand in the situations you describe and it is so sad to see. these people didnt ask to be put in their situation and would much rather be working in a decent paying job but everything is minimum wage, and they are made to sign up to things like waiving their right to the working hours directive or they dont get the job, but when they have to take time off to look after their kids they get threatened with the sack. I also read stuff from people about if they cant afford kids they shouldnt have them but that mindset is inhuman. so children are for rich people only? what sort of country is this turning into.

the well off dont have the faintest clue of what life is like in poverty. even many of those working are in poverty are now sick with worry about what will happen when fuel bills go through the roof later this year. I get by somehow and thank god but the future scares me to death.

Approximately 1.42m in the three months to October 2021. The number has been coming down steadily since the Gordon Brown days, despite the austerity measures forced on the government back in 2010.

This has really pissed off a lot of people including myself and there is petition online but I doubt it will do much good. The Queen has made a massive boo boo here. Linsey Hoyle said that all PMs should get it. That man is a shill and as bad as the politicians which he once was. Someone should have served him Parrot for his Christmas dinner.

Oh dear, what have they done to you Bibbles?

    Quote from Nancy Mitford.

I love children when they cry: For then someone takes them away.

When is 12th night? And do you take the decorations down on that day or the next.

History is much like an Endless Waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever.

On that day, which is 5 January. If you are a Catholic, it’s 6 January.

Leaving them up any longer apparently brings bad luck!

So I understand it. One more evening to enjoy the tree and then pack everything away in the loft for next time.
