What's Annoyed or Irritating You Today

When making a post, please ensure it complies with this site's Main Rules at all times.
  • I thought I would start a thread where we could voice something that does no warrant it's own thread, somewhere where we could voice something that has either annoyed or Irritating us, get something off your chest here. I shall start things off so you get an example of what kind of things I'm talking about....

Gate titles in the news and media for example 'partygate'. Why does everything have to be a gate in the title to vilify and/or make something out as a scandal. GB news was coming out with some new gates this morning regarding the Wessex's on their tour 'wessexgate' and some others IIRC I think they even said porngate over the MPs in the house of commons. Why does everything have to be a gate. A gate to me is something you open and close to get from A to B. The way the media use the term makes no sense and it's starting to bug me.

They need to hire some creative headline writers.

I'm sure you realise that this all stems from the "Watergate" scandal in the US in the early 1970's in the Watergate Hotel. The scandal saw the resignation of President Nixon to avoid impeachment. Watergate or indeed any "gate"is now synonymous with a big scandal, but in most cases it is entirely overblown in comparison to the original Watergate scandal.

  • What annoyed me today (and has annoyed me for some time now) is a military helicopter whose pilot flies in so low I have to locate him from among the street trees and then does a turn loop over our house. It's terrifying to see this large war machine dip its nose to turn and then aiming it straight at you, zoom forward over your garden. If (and when) he manages to crash doing this he's going to take me and at least two neighbours on either side of me to the happy hunting grounds.

Today was the last straw. I went outside and confronted the beast. I can still see it coming straight at me. It was like being in a war zone. Everything in my brain screamed "get out of the way!" but something kept me there in front of it and as it got near enough I raised each hand with a finger to the wanker.

He is a threat to our lives. I am instigating investigations on who he is.

  • Reading the same crap about Politicians witch hunts, Partygate, now an MP allegedly watching porn on his mobile in the Commons calls for Starmer to be investigated for swigging beer and a pork pie with party members.

Never mind a ruddy birthday cake its the price of energy, cost of living , censorship, age discrimination, that concerns me, what really concerns me is what will Putin do how far will he go, will we end up with another cold war, or a WW3 nuclear war

  • What really annoys me today and from time to time, but especially today is a local farmer has just spread something that absolutely stinks on his fields. The aroma is all pervading and totally impossible to get away from, it is truly sickening. I suspect it is liquified pig shit and it feels like it has been injected into my sinuses so overpowering it is. My neighbours are also complaining about it and the smell is carrying for miles. It's the second time this has happen in a few weeks. I know we have to make things grow but this stink to too much.

  • I don't have that problem where I am, poor air quality and noise sirens yes lots of idiots too, bloke across the road is not very bright last time the Police Helicopter was hovering overhead for 20 mins he was out in the street throwing bread at it ;)

    He's probably being "organic".

  • Sainsbury's have no smooth "taste the difference" orange juice. I'm not buying the stuff with bits in it only to have to filter the bits out.

History is much like an Endless Waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever.

The bits are the best bit 😊

    Brillant idea Norra. 8)

I would say neighbours annoy me, but I already have a thread for that. ^^

The gate=isation annoys me too, as does other Americansations.

The newest one being "first responders".

Sorry, I know it might be trival, but it's PISSING me right off.

Every article I read now says that first responders attended this fire, or that murder etc. Whatever ever happened to calling them "the emergency services?"

When I used to work in a skycraper on the site of what is the London Shard now, my desk used to shake when three chinooks used my building as practice to fly around.

I assume they must have had permission, because it was a regular thing to test their urban flying skills, I assume. So, I sympathise LW.

  • Yes I see the Shinnok's over London quite often, my son works for a large construction company who have built large tower blocks Offices apartments etc he has seen the same up close , Police and the Army do practice around some buildings to see should they need to land or drop armed officers or troops on the roofs in emergencies .

When Trump visited the Queen two American Osprey Aircraft which can land and take off vertically flew over my house very low, I saw on the News later that evening they had touched briefly in Hyde Park again just in case the wheels had come off

  • Osprey are only used by Special forces....SAS/SBS. My house shakes when Chinooks fly over which is almost daily and the TV reception cuts out momentarily while they fly over. I think they have electronic warfare equipment onboard that interferes with the signal. I dread to think how much the fuel costs are for Chinooks. Back in the 80's I was onboard a few Search and Rescue Wessex 5's and Anti Submarine Warfare MK4 Sea Kings and the Wessex 5 cost approx £500 per an Hour and a Sea King was £1000 per hour. Most of the Chinooks are carrying troops and follow the Thames down to Woolwich. There's also a lot more Apache's these days too which are quite heavy on the air which generates noise and the odd Merlins that fly over. I've never flown in a Chinnock but I have been pretty close to one on the ground and those two rotors generate a tremendous amount of air and are really really noisy. Very high maintenance helicopters they are.

  • My daughter was in the ATC when 16 years of age, the last part of her Duke of Edinburgh's Award was held on the Isle of Wight they had to navigate across the island and camp out which they did, we have a photo of her chatting with Prince Philip at the award ceremony in Clarence House

The Chinook pilots were practising landing and picking troops up before being deployed to Bosnia , so the Cadets were used they would jump out as they hovered close to the ground and deploy outwards , then jump back on board off and away and do it again and again all morning , they loved it.

Two of my grandchildren are now in the ATC they love it , the eldest is now a Cadet Warrant Office both of them have will complete the award this summer
