My tax Idea

  • For years we have accepted the fact that people who earn more money pay a higher rate of income tax. In my mind this only deters people from doing well and discourages success. It also encourages people to earn less and not strive for success. My idea reverses this. I believe income tax should start off at a higher rate and then should be reduced when people earn more money. This in turn will encourage people to work harder and succeed. Seriously, I don't know why nobody has thought about it before?

  • It’s simply the case that the ‘working classes’ don’t like the middle classes earning more than them! It really is as simple as that!

  • I think a flat rate tax would be best. Everyone pays as an example 25% and the better you do the better your life becomes as you disposable income increases.

  • There are a lot people out there that are very jealous of people who earn more than they do, for over 50 years Labour have sent the same message out its the rich and business owners that are holding back they are rolling in money , and they don't pay enough taxes.

The high earners have always paid more tax on their income, I worked for over 50 years I worked as a much overtime as I possibly could for 30 of those years , but it meant I paid more income tax because it put me in the next higher tax bracket.

That is the problem a punitive taxation system deters people from working harder, the rich and high earners even though they do pay more do not get better treatment say by the NHS , or better Council Services they get the same as those who earn less or pay nothing at all, and for years many that could work didn't.

The more high earners we have the better, they spend money which helps our economy, the bigger house they have the more Council Tax they pay, the more NI they pay.

However do we get value for the money we have to give the Government year in year out IMO No they waste and awful lot of it , the NHS is a perfect example its a money pit it is not efficient it has not been for years.

We are constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul

Probably because it would make the poor, poorer and never get the chance to become rich.

Personally, I prefer if we could go even more radical and just think about ditching taxes altogether, almost. So much money is wasted, I rather choose how to waste (or not) my own money.

  • The Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) is pointing out that the government is making the wrong decisions when it comes to taxation.

According to today’s Telegraph, the CEBR has stated that ‘reversing Britain's economic decline will require "unpopular" tax cuts, warning that the UK risked shooting itself in the foot if it kept on targeting workers and the wealthy.

It ‘gave the example of Norway, where a recent decision to raise taxes on the country's richest, including expats, has led dozens of millionaires and billionaires to flee to Switzerland.

It also said ‘the Government could use improvements in public sector productivity to pay the hardest working civil servants more.

Any other gains from productivity improvements should be used "to cut the top rates of personal and corporate tax’ adding: ‘If we don't have these [wealthy] people, more of us will have to pay higher taxes.’

I despair that the CEBR needs to state this at all, because it is so obvious. I have been saying it myself and I cannot see why the current government, a Conservative government, cannot see this.

Liz Truss had it right. Cut taxes, cut government waste and grow the economy. So obvious, yet so blind to the current administration.

India’s economy has overtaken ours and others will push us down the league table even further if we don’t get a grip.

It rather depends on what the Conservative Government’s real agenda is doesn’t it? If you believe the globalist agenda is real it includes the destruction of the middle classes. Therefore lowering taxes to improve the lot of the masses and stimulate investment which increases employment opportunities and choices for the many is not what the Tories are about. Increased distribution of wealth and freedom of choice are old fashioned ideals and work against the principles of the climate change agenda which requires reducing freedoms, choice and wealth to eradicate what is considered wasteful consumerism.

You could ditch income tax, but of course, that would be put on consumables etc. Not a bad idea I suppose

  • Truss kind of had the right idea, but her chancellor got it very wrong. Sunak has gone to the opposite extreme, and will stagnate the economy.

It's the muliple different taxes that is part of the problem. Originally, income was taxed at source, but more recent decades has also seen revenue taken from various means including VAT. You should pay tax once, not multiple times.

  • As things stand it's possible to pay tax on tax I think.

Insurance, petrol, diesel, gas, electricity and alcohol all have a tax on top of tax.

  • Petrol/diesel is a good example.

Should we pay tax on the fuel we use, or on the roads that we drive on? Or, do you think the current system is fair.

Road Tax as it used to be called (Vehicle Excise Duty as it is called now) used to be allocated for the upkeep of the highways.

Now it is just another thing to slap a tax on. Road repairs don't seem to keep pace with the wear and tear and I believe most of the tax take from VED just goes into central coffers but maybe somebody knows more? The latest version of the VED isn't even based on emissions, its based on original purchase price. So it has become a progressive tax based on wealth rather than pollution.

Fuel I subject to VAT and duty (more tax) and one is a compound of the other and this was originally IIRC levied as some sort of environmental penalty on CO2 emissions which we all paid.

Road pricing is coming once the technology is mature, then we will be priced for each mile and the other taxes will probably stay as well, plus they will know where you are going and how fast you are ravelling so that will be interesting.

  • I disagree. We need economic redistribution to help those in poverty.

The far right see the working class as criminals and parasites.

The far right want the poor to suffer.

No we don’t need any sort of redistribution policy whatsoever. That is bloody socialism or communism both are cancerous ideologies that have killed more people than they help.

What is this obsession people have with equality? There is no such thing and it is impossible to manufacture and who decides what equality is?

When i was a lad what you call redistribution was called theft.

which poverty? There are about 30 of them.

I grew up on a council estate with a chronic invalid single parent mother, single by virtue of being a widow, we struggled but managed on £26 per week, i have no idea what that equates to today but there were no food banks. Just remember the welfare state was a Labour idea to be a safety net, not a lifestyle choice.

Criminals and parasites, where do you get such shite. nobody wants anybody go suffer, but lets be clear nobody is entitled to something for nothing.

Do unto others as they would do unto you, then f**k off before the Police get there. :saint:

  • I think the problem is the wide gap in distribution and the way levels for pay and career are structured. Why should a shop manger get paid such a vast amount more than the worker on the shop floor serving the customer. They both work equally as hard and in many cases the workers will actually physically do more graft. It's so Victorian the manger versus worker who often conflict. Mangers can get paid double or even triple the amount of the worker and that's before we get to the silly levels of management where in some trades they can earn 100's of thousands. Fucking MP's too look how much they get paid for sitting on their arse most of the time or simply bulshitting bickering in the HoC along with all the extra perks they get. Labourers doing physical graft on a building site don't even earn that much.

  • I have no qualms about the rich making money.

What I find distateful is their blatant avoidance of paying tax.

Offshore accounts and creative accounting might be legal but they are immoral.

They like to tell the poor to pay theirs but do their damndest to not pay their own!

  • Truss kind of had the right idea, but her chancellor got it very wrong. Sunak has gone to the opposite extreme, and will stagnate the economy.

No, he didn’t. Jeremy Hunt has already pursued, or started to pursue those very same policies. Go for growth, decrease taxation, increase efficiency….
