The EU and Why Brexit Failed

  • If you have tariff free trade with low wage economies then our jobs move there. When our jobs move there you get undercutting of our wages and more unemployed while a few people get rich selling imported goods. You do realise that don't you.

    Thats bullshit

If that were true you would be moving to Vietnam for a job. Don't run a business whatever you do.

What attracts foreign investment are democratic countries with low taxes and a world class education system.

  • So on planet Bread we didn't lose jobs to Poland once they had tariff free trade with is. But on this planet they did.

Also on planet Bread there are no tariffs on imports from Vietnam. But on this planet there are.

I rather suspect planet Bread is a flat earth where 2x2 = 3

That ignores the fact that we cannot find enough people to do these low paid jobs. They would all prefer to live off benefits. So we take those jobs to where the employment markets are. It's a simple and effective solution.

  • That implies the Minimum Wage is not working. It's a con and against free market enterprise.

These are two separate issues. The minimum wage was meant to ensure that poorer people could make ends meet better and encourage people off benefits. Neither worked, of course, because the differentials between the low paid and the higher paid have had to be maintained (leaving the poorer workers just as disadvantaged as before) and those living off benefits are workshy anyway if they are otherwise fit for employment.

  • People should negotiate their worth. Thats how the free market operates. Now the government controls pay. Unless you are an MP or a police officer or banker.

What jobs are you referring too , social care , child care , fruit picking ?

Most if not all these low paid jobs cannot be be offshored

I understand your point but I think a minimum wage does work & I also think the tax threshold should be raised to make low pay more attractive

The solution to that is to stop farmers and the like employing low wage workers and invest in automation. You can't be outraged at low wages and poverty while importing low wage poor foreigners to do work at the same time. Work has to pay, the benefits system needs to reflect that.

    You get weirder every day.

UK jobs went to the EU because of EU grants which paid UK businesses to move there. Remember what happened in Ireland when the EU reduced corporation tax after the financial crash to stop it going bankrupt. Along came massive inward investment from big pharma, Google, Apple etc.

The minimum wage is government after government further offloading its obligations onto employers for daring to employ people and give them a meaningful role in society. It causes unemployment outside of cities.

The 2nd time this year I agree with you

I mostly agree with that but unless we put tariffs on food imports (an electoral and geo political impossibility) that would just drive UK farmers out of business making us even weaker strategically.

  • Brexit was not only a rejection of the EU, it was a rejection of socialism. Now the people see what we saw 7 years ago, the EU membership are doing the same.

It's over for the EU. It can't carry on and abandon its principles at the same time.
