IS ISRAEL ATTACKS AND RETALIATION JUSTIFIED

  • What a sight to wake up to, I was quite shocked at how easy HAMAS seems to have started this. However I think the Palestinian people will undoubtedly live to regret that this occurred.

I have just seen an 11 storey building flattened, reportedly the home if radio Hamas. This has only just begun but retribution is severe and ongoing.

    It's going to be nasty.

History is much like an Endless Waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever.

  • It takes a lot to be a more despicable actor than Israel's IDF but time after time Hamas and its Iranian backers do it.

With the deliberate targeting, killing and kidnapping of civilians, this a 911 level of outrage by Hamas, it is hard to see how Israel can tolerate Gaza being an independent state again.

  • As I watched the news last night, after 41yrs of marriage I still managed to shock my wife.

A rerun of the moment that the eleven storey building was flattened was followed by talk of kidnappings etc, I paused the TV and said to her I'd tell Hamas they needed to pick another building to flatten, because if our citizens and soldiers weren't released within the hour one building every 30mins in gaza would be flattened.

Of course that's easy to say watching from your armchair, but Hamas will get its comeuppance and Isreal is a state not averse to exacting revenge in kind.

  • Yes it's War. Let them get on with it. The important thing is that no other country gets involved until the war between Palestinians and Israelis is over and there is a definite winner.

Every other country should stay away from that war.

  • I think each side is as bad as the other. But frankly, if the Palestinians want peace and a better standard of living for their people, they are going a funny way about it.

They will never get their land back - they need to get used to it. If they wanted to develop Palestine rather than having it look like a rubbish dump, there will be money there to help them.

  • Corbyns friends ....

Strange though that on the 50th anniversary of Yom Kippur Israel weren't prepared for anything and MOSSAD failed in detecting the attack even though its one of the best intelligence service in the world.

What Hammas has done is given the green light to be wiped out, which I fully support.

Strange also that all those missiles needed funding and where did the money come from ?

  • I do believe the land that Israel was given was a waste heap. Through sweat and toil they have made that wasteland a flourishing country.

OB is correct, if you want peace you must be prepared to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

I think even so long post WW2 the Jewish nation as is now, gets away with far more than any other nation on earth would so get away with. That needs to stop, the Israelis need to be forced from lands taken by force just as Russia does in Ukraine.

    One rule,applicable to all.

In the same token, the Palestinians meed to accept the Israeli state as legitimate and then work towards getting their own. Had we had an effective UN, issues over shared religious sites would be mediated correctly instead of under the gun or the bomb.

  • The Jews have been persecuted for over 2.000 years it is time it was stopped for good all the Jews have done is gone home and want to live in peace

The Israelis have taken out one the top men in Hamas a terrorist organization the body of Hamas leader Ayman Younis was recovered from the rubble today after the shelling of his house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza,

  • According to the Express today

Theresa May's former pollster James Johnson has told the Labour conference this morning that they must crack down on hard left MPs like Apsana Begum or risk allowing them to "taint" the Labour brand.

Speaking at a Tony Blair Institute fringe event, Mr Johnson said Ms Begum "can and will taint the Labour brand if they are not removed or dealt with".

He said she risks toxifying the party after her actions yesterday, which saw her endorse a pro-Palestinian stand at the Labour conference, just five hours after the same group announced a protest outside the Israeli embassy this evening, and blamed the horrific terror attacks on the actions of Israel.

He previously said Sir Keir Starmer should "obviously take the whip off people who have done this today - and ban them from Labour conference".

Neither Labour nor Ms Begum have responded to the Express's repeated requests for comment.

Especially with the hardliner Netanyahu in charge.

Since he became PM again, Nethanahu has sought to undermine Israel's democratic processes and law, all in the name of security. Now Hamas has handed to him on a plate, what he could not do himself.

The agreed upon two-state solution is now dead, in my view, and probably has been for some time. The only question is how extreme do the Israelis go against their enemy. Do they wipe them out completely and thus repeating, what was done in WW2 to them, or much more likely, gradually push the Palestinians out of the Gaza strip to begin with and then the West Bank.

Curious timing of this attack, just as the Saudis were about to normalise relations with Israel...

But to do that they took what was someone's else's land away from them.

It's a bit like the Roman's saying they want London back. They built it, it's theirs, isn't it?

  • Yes, I'd be astonished if it wasn't Iran behind it. That's what happens when deals are done with autocratic regimes. Will the Americans, or anyone else, ever learn by what's now happening?

  • When you look at the behaviours of Hamas and Netanyahu over the years it's hard to completely discount the possibility they have some secret pact where each commits outrages to bolster the political position of the other.

Yes they have taken land over the years to keep a buffer zone making it more difficult for the likes of Hamas to attack them, I believe they also bought land as well over the years and which once was a desert that years later is now producing food, having paid for it the Arabs tried to take it back by force hence the six day war attacked from all sides.

This fighting has been going on since WW1 when the Ottoman Empire who had ruled the Middle East for four hundred years was defeated , during WW2 the Grand Mufti wanted Hitler to send him Jews and he would burn them all.

Jews have lived in that part of the world BC , not all were driven out by the Romans some stayed, I very much doubt if this conflict will ever be over unless the Palestinians put their weapons down at some stage and live with the Jews as many do

Each extreme on both sides was always looking for excuses. Now Netanyahu has his. He's been waiting his whole life for this moment and I don't think he will waste it.

If the agreement which we had organised more than a hundred years ago was kept, there wouldn't have been a problem. The Jews would've got the land west of the Jordanian River and the Arabs got the land west of the river. The Arabs did of course retain the land west of the river, but instead of it becoming Palestine, it became Jordan instead, ruled by another Arab despot, albeit a milder one than most.

I think Mike was right with his comment, there needs to be a definitive winner, one way or the other in this war. That what happens in wars. One side wins, the other loses. It's the frozen-ish war over several decades that has kept this conflict going.

Two tribes cannot have the same land,. It doesn't work anywhere else in the world and it sure as hell doesn't work in this situation.

    Winner takes it all.

I know some Jews have always lived on that land and before the 20th century, it was mainly nomadic Arab tribes that lived there on and off, but the Jews quest to have their own homeland and the movement that went with it starting in the 19th century and then the subsequent holocaust, is what created the unique situation that exists today.
