  • Inflation slows to 4.6% as government says pledge met
UK inflation fell sharply in October to its lowest rate in two years, largely due to lower energy prices.

Inflation down to 4.7% is good news but not down to Tory policy but the drop in fuel prices.

Gas dropped over 30% while electricity down 15+.

So lets see how quick the suppliers cut the base price to their customers.

Food and rent/mortgage costs still causing financial distress to a lot of people out there.

  • But what would it be standing at if Rishi had been making the easy decisions such as giving into those recklessly high pay demands?

  • Those pay demands wouldn't have been made if Truss hadn't been made PM, that is down to the Tory members who chose her.

The BoE was the main influence other than falling fuel prices.

  • Liz Truss was the scapegoat. Inflation and bank rates were going to increase anyway. Look at what has happened abroad.

Truss had the right policies, but she got her timing wrong on the tax cuts pledge. It would have been better to have introduced the fuel bills issue first and then leave the tax cuts until the Autumn Statement, when the full costings would have been available.

The Truss solution was focussed on growth, which is now admitted by both parties to be the only answer to our problems at this point.

  • IMHO the Wage demands made by the RMT NHS and Teachers were orchestrated by the Far Left Marxists Union Leaders in an attempt to bring about and early election

They made it more difficult to reduce Inflation , as per usual one persons pay rise is another persons price rise, the sooner Inflation in reduced to sooner taxation can be reduced , the strikes simply damaged our economy and hit other workers in the wallet Covid had done enough damage without the Unions doing more

Not just your opinion, Fred, they actually boasted that their aim was to bring down the government. We have a thread on that in this very Forum.

Truss was an utter fool .

She thought she could beat the markets & failed miserably

They have organised more strikes next month and refusing to work overtime , how unexpected :cursing:

  • Why should they work overtime?

They really don't need to they are some of the best paid workers in the UK with good perks, they do normally to earn even more , but they refuse to work overtime one strike days as it causes more chaos

No, she wasn't. That is certainly what some, including the current PM, would have you believe, but it was a classic stitch-up.

The only reason she failed was that she decided to put in her package to help people through the energy crisis before the Autumn Statement, so the measures to fund it were not available at that stage.

Looks like Trussonomics might have won the day after all. The Autumn Statement this afternoon will be very interesting!

  • I have one for them:

Not keeping promises = losing next election.

We all await with baited breath.

  • It won't affect me, but big increase in State Pension coming in April. That'll please everyone else on here.

  • Hunt is an impressive performer, but despite the tax cuts, I don't think it's enough for the conservatives to win the next election.

Pleases me as does the freeze on duty on petrol and booze.

Glad I gave up the evil weed decades ago when they got to £2.50 for 20 king size.

History is much like an Endless Waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever.

I thought he was calm clear precises and amusing Labour and the opposition benches faces said it all for me, but yes I think the Tories will struggle to win the GE time to head for the hills

Yes, but this was just the Autumn Statement, Horizon. We haven’t seen the budget yet!
