  • Not true , your conveniently forgetting the banking crisis

I don’t think anyone has lost sight of the financial crisis spawned by Americans in 2008, Truebrit. The issue here is that Labour failed to put money aside during the golden years - they spent far too much of our reserves. So when the crisis struck, they did not have the ability to deal with it. The winning Conservative Party had to go into a coalition with the Lib Dems and had the task of sorting out the mess, and the Left has the audacity to blame the austerity measures that were necessary on the Conservatives.

It’s amazing how some people have such a selective memory.

    Did austerity work ?

  • Austerity worked in that it allowed us to get a better equilibrium between our income and outgoings, which was previously just escalating our debts.

Things were starting to get better when we had the Covid pandemic, followed by war in Ukraine, which then pushed our debt up even higher than before.

I think we all need to contemplate the position we would be in now if we hadn’t had the period of austerity. It could have been so much worse.

    It really didn’t work

Debt was still climbing before Covid

  • He is, and by the way, the Rolling Stones went to live in France for the very same reason.

    Labour doesn't learn through experience.

Sorry, I meant the deficit, not the debt. We had to get the deficit down because this was simply adding more to our debt each month.

It’s the deficit that has come down.

Incidentally, your link doesn’t work for some reason.
