Tommy Robinson arrested again.

  • Far-right activist Tommy Robinson was pepper-sprayed by police and arrested at an antisemitism march in London on Sunday.

Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was detained by dozens of officers near the Royal Courts of Justice, from where the demonstration began.

Protest organisers has made clear ahead of the event that Robinson, 40, and his followers would not be welcome.

The English Defence League (EDL) founder was still being held in custody on Monday morning.

    Why was Tommy Robinson arrested?

The Met Police said organisers had “been clear about their concerns” regarding the attendance of Robinson and his supporters, saying they “would cause fear for other participants”.

“As a result he was spoken to and warned on more than one occasion that his continued presence in the area was likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress to others. He was directed to leave the area but refused to do so,” the police added.

The Met said pepper spray was used after Robinson “resisted as officers attempted to put him in handcuffs”.

“He was warned repeatedly before PAVA spray was used,” the force said. “Following its use, officers gained control of him and handcuffs were applied.”

Police later explained in a statement that he was arrested under section 35 of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act.

    Will the idiot never learn

  • I believe this was politically motivated. Robinson did nothing wrong. This has nothing to do with liking or disliking him. We can not apply the rule of law on the basis of who we like or dislike. The definition, concept, and purpose of the rule of law are exactly so we do not judge on the basis of likes and dislikes.

Tommy Robinson has millions of "fans" supporters, and he forms a conduit for protest. There is a reason for this - most people are like-minded.

We do not want Hamas supporters inciting violence and death to Jews - police stand and watch them and in fact, help them. We do not want people arrested for waving their own country's Flag - the Union Flag while Hamas supporters wave their flag with impunity.

You do not EVER use Pepper Spray when you outnumber the person you wish to arrest. He could never be a threat to 15 police officers closely surrounding him and holding him.

Remember - YOU will be next.

  • Echo 10 welcome to the Forum

Well you are entitled to your opinion , but I don't share it, he is a thug with numerous convictions over the years, mortgage fraud, possession of drugs, assault on Police, trying to enter America with a borrowed passport etc

Robinson has some support , but to state millions support him is just a wild guess by you IMHO , I don't like the Pro Palestinian Protests , but we all have the right to Protest Peacefully in the UK, Police have arrested some who did not protest peacefully , the Police can only arrest anyone if they are suspected of committing a Criminal Offence

Np person has been arrested for waving their owns nations flag, if you are referring to the elderly man with the Union Flag a couple of weeks ago, he was not arrested for waving a Union flag , he was arrested for his racially motivated insulting words and behaviour the was shouting at the Protesters, he was charged and pleaded guilty to the charge in Court.

Robinson led about three hundred of his drunken supporters that he encouraged to march on the Cenotaph on Armistice Day , to allegedly protect it , which ended up in a punch up with Police, several were injured two badly, one had a broken hip, another a broken elbow, the Palestinian Protesters avoided the Cenotaph no where near it. Many of his supporters were arrested some are still being sought , Robinson ran away

On Sunday the Police has put in place a Dispersal Order to protect the Jewish Protest , that is why Robinson was told to leave the area, he argued he was being escorted away but still arguing, it is not uncommon for several Police Officers to escort a person being arrested or moved on away from a protest , for safety reasons .

If he is charged at the end of the day due to his behaviour, the Police Officer who sprayed him to subdue him will have to justify his or her actions in Court as per usual.

  • From the Daily Telegraph:

    "

Several placards also compared Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, to the devil, a common anti-Semitic trope.

A number of people wore green headbands with Arabic writing on them, imitating the style of Hamas headbands, and in Whitehall a figure of a Palestinian tied to a crucifix was held up.

Flares were set off in Trafalgar Square – in breach of police advice – and as the marchers made their way towards Whitehall there were repeated chants of “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” – widely taken as a call for the destruction of Israel.

One placard said this was not a “slogan but a promise” and another showed a Palestinian scarf covering the entire map of the Jewish state.

Daniel Ponting, 44, from Swanley, Kent, who joined in the controversial chant said: “Israel is a terrorist state. I will not stop chanting [from the] river from the sea, Palestine will be free. Palestine should never surrender. There will not be a ceasefire.”

  • Robinson is a thug and we certainly don't want to encourage him and yet those who support Hamas are encouraged.

Personally, I'd ban the lot of them.

  • He has not caused anyone to die. Just Stop Oil has. They did not feel the police handcuffs or pepper spray.

  • All fully reported by the Media , Police have arrested some of the Protesters either at the time or later , some have been charged and will be put before the Courts , some are still being sought by the Police considering the size of the Protests the vast majority were peaceful and not committing Criminal Offences.

The Police have Lawyers in the Control Centre watching the Protesters to tell the Police what behaviour constitutes a Criminal Offence according to them the chant " from the river to the sea is not unlawful behaviour ", on the latest Protest they had Arabic Speaking Police in the crowd to translate for their colleagues.

The Banners with Arabic writing on is allegedly a Prayer , with a number of meanings so according to the Legal Eagles no offence

Some protesters have been arrested for setting off flares and fireworks and or Criminal Damage to buildings during the protests.

The Police are totally outnumbered on these large protests 300,000 strong less than 2,000 Officers to contain it some of them some drafted in from outside forces to try and keep it as peaceful as ever common sense dictates that

  • Good response, however, words/phrases/mantras or whatever can incite when injected into a situation.

Blacks can shout the "N" word as often as they like, wherever they like. The same word used by a white person is "incitement", or "hate speech". I honestly do not see anything wrong with whites using the "n" word when black people say it with impunity.

I am not saying the use of the word is nice or good or necessary. I am concerned with double standards.

Our Freedom of Speech and Expression has been under attack for decades, but like it or not we still have the right to Protest Peacefully not a right I want to see watered down or stopped , I don't like these Protests in relation to the war in Gaza but the majority of them are staying within the Law

  • Police have now confirmed Robinson real name Stephen Lennon, of Bedfordshire, has been charged with failing to comply with a section 35 direction excluding a person from an area.

He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 22 January 2024

  • I think the point being made is that we can't pick and choose. Whether one thinks he's a thug or not or like or dislike him is irrelevant. He is as free to walk the streets as the next man or woman unless there is some kind of parole conditions we don't know about. What crime did he actually commit. Alarm and distress is some bullshit made up as an excuse to be able to pick and choose as one pleases.

It's the equivalent of me writing a letter to the march organisers and saying to them I don't want you marching the streets when I am on the way to work because it will cause me alarm and distress and then getting plod to arrest them all. Frankly I find it more disturbing that Boris was there with a Grimsby Town football club bobble hat on.

  • The Police were handed full power to act, decide on whether any protest take place - when to stop/end it - and who may attend. They have full control via a senior rank police officer.

It depends on one's political stance and fitting in with prevailing media, and government agenda.

Just Stop Oil was permitted to shut down a vital part of London - for many months of "protests". They caused deaths.

    But they suited an agenda.

The BLM, a violent, criminal cult destroyed property with impunity. The police stood and watched them. Our rule of law properly applied would see them in prison - where Tommy Robinson is SWIFTLY heading.

  • Nora

All the Laws and regulations that our Governments over the years have been put in place to protect the majority of the population, Robinson like the rest of us is free within reason to walk our streets and within reason voice our opinions, but with that freedom comes responsibility.

Robinson has a track record of causing confrontation on our streets , he over the years has organised Protest marches which the Police as per usual help organise , but they make sure he does not protest in an area where confrontation is liable happen

He caused violence on armistice day when he called for his supporters to protect the Cenotaph who attacked the Police, the Police considered his presence last Sunday was likely to cause a Breach of the Peace , hence the Police used legislation to remove him from the area, all he had to do was walk away as requested, he didn't so was arrested.

Down to him, IMO he loves the attention and publicity

  • I think it best to look at such issues in the mindset of what one has the right to do not whether you like him or not.

I can not abide Sadiq Khan he is vile. I would not seek for him to be arrested, banned, and persecuted when he is exercising his rights.

Just Stop Oil caused people to die. They seemed to have police protection. and what did the police spokesperson say when interviewed?

"Their right to protest must be protected in this country". Police alone had/have the absolute power to shut them down.

There is not one Eco -vegan - whatever person who thinks Just Stop Oil did, is doing anything wrong.

  • Can you, without bias, tell us why and how the EDL was formed?

Can you tell us why people not favouring the leftist viewpoint are always labeled - Extreme Right Winger ******* by the media and others? On that basis every person who stands for certain preferred policies, and laws are "Extreme Right Wing" it is a media trick and the sheepies are fooled by it.

Richard Tice, a posh person with connections - is never referred to as "Extreme Right Winger". Why?

  • I am surprised, but pleased, that you can discuss this man on this forum. On others you best step around it like dog poo.

I hope to get to know folk and read their comments.

I was educated to hate the man by the BBC but fell across his address at Oxford. Quite moving,as I have myself an unmentionable.

I like to have myself as sorta liberal, but which means I am far right these days.

I saw a report on the fellow by Katie Razzle a top BBC honcho some year(s) back. Shish! I thought him a Nasty. Then,by happenstance,I came across him in an unedited version of the clip that had been tv presented. Oh dear. Suddenly I was finding him not such an evil person. More laughs followed as I then saw his Tommy Takedown wherein John Sweeney was outed. Classic comedy.Since that time I have watched his documentary Silenced: surely a Sundance special. May I confess my olde prejudices about the British judicial system were then only reinforced.

I dont go along with everything the man says: I dont know anyone who does. I guess he's a William Tyndale: we have so many martyrs back here in Englande.

Apologies for the forward script. Dunno how it arrived or how to get rid of it. A bit like our Top Table that guverns us all hereabouts

  • I align with your views. I connect his swift rise to fame/infamy as a threat to the Establishment in times when we were mastering social networks and could post our own comments and photos instantly. Back then TR had over 5 million supporters and filled central London for one of his speeches.

This meant people could circumvent the newspapers and TV/radio news as the ONLY conduits to being heard. Even letters to your MP were ignored or got the famous "standard reply".

WE had the power to CALL-OUT Prince Andrew or Cameron or Blair or the Royals - Fim stars etc with their double stabdards or even criminal ways. We did not need permission to post our own views. This is too powerful for the Establishment.

TR had immense power. The BBC became secondary.

Don't forget it was TR who pushed the multi-thousand Muslim gang rapes (of white girls) into the headlines. The BBC and others stopped us from using the word ISLAM or MUSLIM when expressing an opinion on it. As did Facebook and Twitter.

I live in London and have to endure Mayor Khan , one of the key responsibilities the Mayor of London is to overseeing the Met Police , he has done nothing wrong so in no danger of being arrested for anything, he actually holds the purse strings of the Met Police budget.

As for Stop Oil the Met has arrested hundreds of them over the last couple of years, some are still in prison, some are awaiting trial the Police are arresting them week in week out , same for people causing criminal damage to buildings in the Capital

Police actually help organise marches of all kinds in the UK be it Protest March, or such as May Day , Easter Parade, etc, all anyone needs to do is contact them and they will help plan the route starting point , and finishing destination which they have been doing for decades.

The Police cannot ban a Protest march, if they have information intelligence that strongly suggests violent disorder may occur they have to ask the Home Secretary of the day for permission to do so.

I don't know which planet you live on , but its not this one
