As you might remember from my explanations of why I called myself Little Wing on here when I first joined, a hawk killed one of a pair of speckled pigeons that were nesting in our palm tree. Ripped off the hen's wing. The male was so traumatised he won't nest here any more. But yesterday he came in for a drink at the bird bath. It's epic tragedy in their world and very sad to see, but that is how they manage to survive. The hawk is a natural predator for their species. But when domestic cats kill wildlife I'm afraid I can't turn a blind eye.
My comments shouldn't be confused with wood pigeons, because I'm talking about urban ones, which are entirely different viz. the former are wildlife, whereas the latter are (and who can deny it?) vermin.
