  • With my eyes our HD 42" Sony is as good as we need. Viewed from about 10-12 feet I can't really tell much difference between an HD and SD picture but that's probably because it does a good job upscaling a digital picture anyway. Obviously close up the 1080 source is better but anything more seems unnecessary.

Real holographic (aka Star Wars) TV is IMO a fair way away. Anything else is just the TV manufacturers just trying to get people to buy a new TV when they don't need one.

  • 4K sport looks fabulous on SKY ,on formula 1 and football the difference is really noticeable on my Panasonic 58" set , source material is vital , I am yet to be bowled over by the upscaled HD movies however , as for 8K , on a cinema screen it may look stunning but I am not convinced that a TV would ever do it justice.

  • How much detail can our eyes perceive anyway?

I'm sure I saw a story a few weeks back that someone has invented it, but may have got my wires crossed. I gather 5g is needed for it.
