I think that the dismantling and destruction of the mining industry was wrong though.
Labour actually closed more pits that the Tories did , seams were running out, low grade coal totally uneconomical to run the taxpayers were propping up many Mines, the demand for coal was also decreasing across the UK , Steam Trains were gone most factories ran on power provided buy oil not coal.
Clean Air Act came in many home no longer burned coal, I am from the North my part of the world was mainly Cotton Mills so was Yorkshire or Wool they all went due to cheap imports from overseas more mill workers lost their jobs than Miners , our car industry plagued by strikes organises by Red Dobbo hand the car industry to Asia on on a platter.
Many factories were overmanned closed shops, out of date machinery that Unions refused to allow any changes , Unions never create jobs, but by hell they destroyed a lot of them over the years
