  • A woman who has been married to a British man for 27 years has been deported to Singapore.
Irene Clennel was being held in a Scottish detention centre, but has now told the BBC she has been sent back to her country of origin without warning.

Mrs Clennel had been living near Durham with her husband before being detained, and has two British sons, as well as a granddaughter, in the UK.

Periods spent abroad caring for her parents are thought to have invalidated her residential status.
The Home Office said it did not comment on individual cases.

.......Mrs Clennell, who had been living in Chester-le-Street, was given indefinite leave to remain in the UK after her marriage.

I'm all for a strict immigration policy but on the surface this case seems to be a sledgehammer to crack a nut. However indefinite leave to remain means what it says and one has to wonder why she doesn't appear to have applied for British citizenship within those 27 years.

But it's said that rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools. If this case is as reported perhaps they should have called in a wise man before interpreting the rules so strictly.

  • Our friend made the accounting mistake of not giving him and his wife a salary from their new business. They were going to plough as much as they could back into it. Home Office descended upon the wife and are going to kick her out. He has been in the papers, on TV, etc, but they refuse to handle his case and he is not willing to stay in Britain and let his wife go back to SA alone with no job and no house so they might both end up back here with no jobs and no house. They are not young and he needs medical treatment from the UK, so I don't know what he's going to do. He was born in London. He went home and this is how they treated him and all the others they refuse to consider.

Fall off a log and stagger onto a beach or roll out of a lorry and vanish into the undergrowth and they'll apparently call you a "refugee" and give you stuff. It is insane, that is for certain.

  • The BBC article has spread around the world about the "evil" UK, but what has not been spread is this pertinent sentence from the article :

It is understood Mrs Clennell has spent most of her life in Singapore.

It doesn't really require any comment, does it?

  • This is our old friend and his wife. They have their MP working with the Home Office for them and they might get leave for the wife to obtain permission to stay. They are on the edge. Personally, I think upsetting the lives of British nationals like this is a disgrace when it's uncontrolled migration that you need to get hard on.

  • Never mind, welcome to the club, that is happening almost everywhere and when anyone wants to put a stop to it there is, for some reason I can't quite fathom, an outpouring of angst.
