Try not to join the idiot brigade, Darioush and talk bollocks. Without the elders and their knowledge and experience no generation has any direction, heritage or meaning in life. The group that teaches you to hate your elders is a Marxist group. Kick it up the Jacksie, it's evil.

Yes, that's why it's in the pot to the side as it had a feisty root already and that got snapped off as I tried to lift it out of the soil. I kinda folded that to one side and placed it so it can develop some side roots and I can slowly get rid of the tap root. If it survives I will transfer it to a bigger pot but that will be a season or so hence. Meantime, it's just brooding on its predicament.

I tried to get the acacia caffra but it seems attached to Mama's root. She was enraged and I beat a hasty retreat as she clawed my hand. Burned like a rose thorn stab.

But I also found a baby Canary Island Date Palm and have potted that (last in the row in the pic). The middle job is an Olive tree baby. There were quite a few. The first one I found in the front garden and have no idea what it is but just potted it as it would have had to be pulled out anyway. Anyone have any idea what it is?

Some African countries have banned them. The wretched things are everywhere. They block up drains, lie in rivers, in the grass and get into water systems. They have even found one at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. They are a curse. But it's not the fault of plastic bags which are marvellous things or plastic which is a brilliant invention (thank you fossil fuel industry).

It is humanity's abuse of convenience packaging and overpopulation that has fuelled the consumerist society.

Kate is making her mark. She is the right stuff. The Pakistan tour was a feather in her cap. She knows how to behave. She will do her duty.

It should be borne in mind that monarchy and feminism, the modern world and various idiot ideas about how to be a maverick whilst still being a royal are not the way it's done. Monarchy is a traditionalist very old world affair and if you can't keep it that way in its most important aspects, you need to be shipped out.

Kate is going to save Britain from yet another embarrassing failed attempt at bringing the "Me" factor into the duty business. Kate is going to succeed in the way in which monarchy is able to sustain itself with an increasingly disenchanted public.

Meghan will eventually get bored with not being able to change the world by stuffing it up and Harry will just get more and more embarrassing if some kind person doesn't ship both of them off to America before Megan's fashionable feminist ambitions clash with something she isn't related to and doesn't seem to comprehend.

    It'll be my pleasure.

You make a good point about the abuse of resources. People tend to think of resources in the large. Oil, Coal, gold, etc, and tend to attack big business as a matter of indoctrination the way the left was taught to attack capitalism and free enterprise. It's the same old song, just a slightly different way of singing it, a slightly altered focus, so people won't notice. I see the same lynch mob rousing that caused some of the original greens leave this new incarnation. It's an attention seeking circus. I notice that that old bandwagon jumper Jane Fonda has suddenly arrived on the scene.

There are many ways people can reduce drastically their destructive effects on the world. Firstly, by seriously educating the young into family planning as overpopulation is at the root of much misery and conflict. Next, is radical religion. That is fuelling overpopulation, violence and illiteracy. Humans can accomplish an enormous amount in this arena without saying the word "carbon."

Lifestyle changes will further reduce the impact of human excess. Packaging can be remodelled for recycling and individuals can help by refusing to have their goods handed over in plastic bags. They need to be reintroduced to that old fashioned essential called the shopping bag and the shopping basket. We refuse shopping bags and have our own shopping bags. This has caused shops to start using paper bags again. These can be recycled but they are also biodegradable. Best is to refuse bags for one item shopping. Mr Wing's sister in Australia is a dressmaker and a qualified pattern cutter. She uses up all her fabric scraps by making shopping bags. Mr Wing came back with two of these and he uses them whenever he goes shopping. Even has one on the bike.

Women can begin becoming more realistic about themselves and stop buying into the anti-aging industry. (Are you listening Ms Fonda, dear?)

There is nothing wrong with ordinary products. And although the circus may hate the fossil fuel industry, it has produced the miracle of Vaseline, or petroleum jelly, which is the best skin protector I know. If you don't want to end up as a wrinkled prune, use that on your eyes and neck all your life. You don't need hugely expensive anti-aging products. They test on animals, they are difficult to manufacture, they use all sorts of obtuse ingredients and they come in very small quantities so you will think they are rare and wonderful and want to buy more. They also each come in a jar. So for the amount of product you get in a cheaper less charismatic and miracle-promising jar that holds a lot of product, you get to buy many small containers of bullshit mix, and you get rich Hollywood stars to tell you that it isn't the Botox and the collagen implants and the plastic surgery, it was the product wot done it.

These products also often raid the jungles and habitats of the world obtaining their obscure miracle ingredients. One year it's some hapless Amazonian flower extract and the next it's a precious oil from some nut that requires the deforestation of acres of the wild so ugly old bats can pretend they are twenty again. Time to get over themselves and just acknowledge the passing of time and the reality of existence. I'll add the complete racket that is sun screen lotion while I'm at it. This has put litres of this crap into the sea as it is washed off the bodies of bathers by the million every summer. It is completely useless and therefore unnecessary. Stay out of the sun with sensible hats and clothing. Boring, but effective and no factories producing useless products in packaging are necessary.

Cruise ships are a curse. Holidaying as though you are a rock star is causing more pollution that any new age greenie is going to admit to. Human sewage, grey waste water and chemicals are as big a part of ocean pollution as the harassed carbon atom. There are too many cruise liners and these are getting bigger and more like floating cities every year.

Flying isn't a problem. Too much flying is. Stay at home for the holidays. Patronise your local venues and hotels. They are dying without you. Boring to put on social media but much kinder to the environment. And while you are there, practise the same rigorous environmental habits you have cultivated at home. The earth will thank you by not flooding you out of existence or burning you to death because you refuse to cooperate.

This can all begin at home and in school. Instead of teaching political and religious ideology and rotting children's minds with the pollution of establishment demands, try teaching them what we used to learn: how to hold your pen (they hold their pens like chimps today), how to write (no one writes anymore, they all type with their thumbs or scoot their finger round a laptop.) Learn to spell, to read, to understand science and to be individually creative. Learn artisan skills. These are things that they say are being done, but when you compare them to what used to be the tradition you see that what is being done is indoctrination. Kids even have to question their genders now. Mother Nature is an idiot, apparently, and you can choose to ignore the way you arrived here. Costly surgery and lots of harmful drugs and hey presto, you can be a girl! You can be a boy! NO YOU CAN'T. Get over it and learn to be who you are and spend your life learning things and being useful. The number of genuine intersex individuals is minuscule and these procedures are for them, if they want them, not for everyone who gets creative about which gender they are today.

I could go on ... ^^ but that will do for now.

I forgot one important thing - teach children about gardens and growing things. With this they will discover the incredible universe of biodiversity and become fellow travellers and not self oriented little monsters who have arthritis of the thumbs and goggle eyes from staring at their phones. It will reduce bullying and internet trolls will die a natural death. Boring in today's world, perhaps, but good. I will have more time for green issues when they become truly green again. At the moment, they are brown and they stink of circus dung.

You know when they pulled that idiot off the top of the train because he had just got on their nerves and they had had enough? I'm hoping for something similar when the people have had enough of the bullshit the political elite keep stuffing down their throats.

If they can get that fed up with a nutter who thinks the world is about to end, then surely they can do likewise and make a proper decision and leave the EU by scaring the incumbent shower into giving the people what the people voted for.

Charles did a book recently I think where he put the record straight.

I agree that Diana did the unthinkable when she was apparently going to get a film financed trashing the Windsors. This was just before she met her end in the tunnel. She had become enraged and couldn't find enough places to dump her anger.

Whatever their private squabbles, the people need calm, reassuring, strong, patriotic regents or regents may as well be disposed with and a Republic installed. ( I am a Republican in these matters. People can't go round bending the knee to soap stars and celebrities in the 21st century. If Monarchy can't stick to its allotted place and task then Monarchy needs to take a hike.)

    Just my opinion :)

I agree with banning them. Not only are they a fire hazard and dangerous when in the hands of idiots but they are terrifying to animals, birds, the elderly and to people who fear the sound of violent conflict. When they are used in large displays they are environmentally hazardous.

The pretty small scale urban fireworks of the past are gone. The modern firework is more like a bomb.

We've got water butts on every single one of our down pipes. The stable and garage both feed into the largest of the butts, and we have smaller ones each side of the bungalow and a small one fed from the greenhouse roof. They are full to capacity at the moment, but I did empty the couple nearest the borders earlier in the year.

It's a bit of a drag waiting for watering cans to fill and then carting them across the garden. If we get another dry spell I may look for a portable pump and hose that can be used from each butt in turn.

Yes, that is what I want as well. Our neighbour has turned his swimming pool into a reservoir for rain water from the roof which he then funnels through an apparatus and into a huge barrel that seems to have a tap and connection on it. I hear them watering their veggies early every morning from a hose and they have a fab garden as a result. My heart sinks every time I look at our drought stricken garden so I'm very keen to put barrels under the major downpipes which spout gallons into no man's land at the moment.
